How to treat shingles

If you have ever had chickenpox, or been vaccinated
for it, you are at risk for getting shingles, a painful, blistering rash. The chickenpox virus stays in the body, even
after chickenpox clears. If the virus reactivates, or wakes up, you
will get shingles. Although shingles is much less contagious
and itchy than chickenpox, it tends to cause more pain. Shingles most often appear on the back, chest,
and stomach, but they can also occur on the face and head, or the legs. Common signs and symptoms of shingles include: – An area of skin that burns, itches, tingles,
or feels very sensitive. This usually occurs in a small area on one
side of the body and lasts one to three days. – A rash that begins as red spots and quickly
turns into groups of clear, painful blisters. These may turn yellow or bloody before they
scab over and heal. – Flu-like symptoms: A fever or headache may
occur with the rash – Pain: Sometimes the pain is bad enough for
a doctor to prescribe medication. The blisters tend to last two to three weeks. Once they heal, the pain tends to lessen. Although the rash from shingles clears in
a few weeks, some people with shingles can experience pain, numbness, itching, and tingling
that can last months – or even years. If you suspect you have shingles, see a board-certified dermatologist immediately. A dermatologist may prescribe anti-viral medicine. When used within 72 hours of the rash appearing,
the medication may lessen the pain and the amount of time the pain lasts. To help relieve the pain and ease discomfort
at home, follow these dermatologists’ tips for treating shingles. Cool the rash with ice packs, cool wet cloths,
or cool baths. Gently apply calamine lotion to the blisters. Do not pick at, scratch or pop the blisters,
as blisters help your skin heal. Cover the rash with loose, non-stick, sterile
bandages. Finally, wear loose, cotton clothing to cover
your affected body parts. If you are unsure whether your rash is shingles,
you have shingles on your face, or you are experiencing a lot of pain, see a board-certified
dermatologist immediately. If you are over age 50, getting the shingles
vaccine may also prevent or lessen the severity of a shingles episode. In addition, even though shingles is much
less contagious than chickenpox, a person with shingles can still spread the virus. If you have shingles, avoid contact with anyone
who has not had the chickenpox or has not been vaccinated. To find a dermatologist in your area or learn

  • Is it okay to get a Shingles vaccine around 25 if one already has it? The reason I ask is because I read that if someone before the age of 50 gets the vaccine it won't protect them later in life.

  • well I just feel bad for somebody that I know because I know that they had the chickenpox when they were a kid and there was no vaccinations and they didn't have any symptoms until years later and its affiliated with the lower back and then they said they were told they had herpes? and so what if you were a child and you had the chickenpox really bad 4 weeks and he had a high fever and then everything was fine and then 20 years later you came up with some strange symptoms? and then you had kids but they don't have any of that because they had shots and they don't have any symptoms like that whatsoever so what's going on I'm really worried I just would like some decent advice and I cannot take those kind of medication some people get allergic. and now hearing all of this knowledge, it sounds really scary and it sounds like there is no cure for it you just have to suffer like it's a really bad disease? worse than Hepatitis? just like they didn't know there was an ab&c back then and there was no vaccine?

Who named Shingles after the roofing material?

  • Very interesting, and I agree with some of the others, there’s more than one way to get rid of those nasty shingles in 3 days. Smooth, clear skin is just the beginning, no more itching is just so liberating, I can’t put my finger on it right now, try Kaena Ramingler’s website better, to see what I’m referring to.

  • hey ,if anyone else needs to find out about fast shingles cure try Skyarza Shingles Treatment Star (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my partner got excellent success with it.

  • Thank you for this helpful information! Additional information about this painful condition can be found here as well: https://www.alliancehhcare.com/resources/shingles-faqs/

  • Anybody who thinks the shingles rash only lasts 1-3 days have clearly never had shingles…I had a very mild case of it (about the circumference of a lemon right next to spine just above the middle of my back) it took 2-3 WEEKS before the scabs started to significantly heal, and it was absolute AGONY. In the beginning it's itchy to a horrifying degree (think about a mosquito bite with a fresh shave wearing a wool beanie) yet you can't scratch very well otherwise you'll pop blisters, then when they start to scab comes the real pain….the nerves in your whole torso are on fire. Top 5 worst experience of my life, easily.

  • I'm 29 and having shingles now and is manageable for me. can't imagine if I'm at my 60's and get this as my body is not strong as now

  • I’m just getting over them and was told to not put any creams or lotions on until all of the blisters have scabbed over. I highly suggest oatmeal baths! I also use Aspercreme with Lidocaine to numb and cool. Worst pain in my life!

  • I had three teeth pulled a couple of days ago and due to the stress of the body, I developed Shingles. At first it felt like a burning sensation and then it felt like bee stings in one area.  What I didn't know that I had the earlier stages, I had an itch in my lower back all the time where there was no skin bites or rashes and I also felt sore muscle pain. The age to get a vaccination is now at age 50. I suggest get the vaccine ASAP.
